We welcome two new employees at the IMCS

We are pleased to welcome two new members to the Institute as of March 01, 2023:

Ms. Katharina Lorenz, M.Sc., joins the research group of Professor Thomas Apel. She studied mathematics in Munich and Salzburg. Ms. Lorenz will work scientifically in the field of optimal control of partial differential equations as well as an exercise instructor for various mathematics courses.

Mr. Bishr Maradni (M.Sc. Computational Mechanics, Technical University of Munich) will be working on applications of hybrid digital twins in the protection of critical infrastructures (CIP). He is part of the computer-based simulation group (Prof. Alexander Popp) and the dtec.bw project RISK.twin.

We warmly welcome both new employees.

Last week, the IMCS took part in the 10th edition of the International Conference on Computational Methods in Applied Mathematics (CMAM-10), which was held in Bonn this year.

In this new preprint, we investigate fast-to-evaluate surrogate modeling techniques for creating a hybrid digital twin of a steel-reinforced concrete beam.

Twelve members of IMCS participated in this year's 9th European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering (ECCOMAS), held in Lisbon.

Thomas Apel as a guest at universities in Hamburg and Hannover

Professor Thomas Apel was a guest at our sister university, Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg, on May 28 and 29, 2024, to discuss issues relating to research, teaching and self-administration with Professors Markus Bause and Sven Knoth and their staff.

New publication uses PINNs to create a model hierarchy with differing fidelity

Our newest collaborative article on creating “A model hierarchy for predicting the flow in stirred tanks with physics-informed neural networks” has been published in the journal Advances in Computational Science and Engineering.

IMCS says goodbye to Venant Habiyambere

At the end of this month, the IMCS is saying goodbye to its longest-serving employee Venant Habiyambere. After 35 years (!) at the UniBw, the technical employee is taking his well-deserved retirement. To mark the occasion, Venant hosted a small retirement party at the institute yesterday with home-made African specialties.
