Second German Workshop on Next-Generation Software Development in Computational Mechanics

4 Oktober 2024

Last week, the IMCS took part in the second German Workshop on Next-Generation Software Development in Computational Mechanics. This three-day workshop with the Chair of Computational Mechanics at the TU Munich, the Helmholtz Centre Hereon and the Ruhr University Bochum served as an opportunity for the participating researchers to exchange information on the jointly developed software codes 4C, QUEENs and deal.ii.

A special focus this year was on an introduction to the QUEENS software package with an overview lecture on the multitude of features, as well as illustrative examples to enable the steepest possible learning curve when getting started with the application. In addition, there was an interesting presentation followed by a group discussion on open-source software development, in which the developers of the deal.ii library shared their experiences with the 4C and QUEENS developers.

Numerous social activities such as a poster session, a walk along the shore of the Ammersee and a bowling tournament rounded off the workshop. We had a great time with our colleagues from Munich, Hamburg and Bochum and are already looking forward to the developments in our research codes that the next year will bring.
