We welcome our new employee in the computer-based simulation group

We are pleased to welcome our new member to the Computer-based Simulation group (Prof. Popp):

Ms. Dharini Balachandran will work on the project "Stable discretization methods and scalable solvers for embedded fiber/solid coupling” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). In her research, she will investigate the construction of stable Lagrange multiplier spaces for the mixed-dimensional coupling of slender fibers embedded into three-dimensional solid continua. Furthermore, she will devise algebraic multigrid methods tailored to the arising saddle-point system to be used as scalable preconditioners for the resulting linear systems. This project builds upon our prior work on mixed-dimensional fiber/continuum coupling and will extend existing regularized constraint enforcement to the case of exact constraint enforcement with Lagrange multipliers.

IMCS says goodbye to Venant Habiyambere

At the end of this month, the IMCS is saying goodbye to its longest-serving employee Venant Habiyambere. After 35 years (!) at the UniBw, the technical employee is taking his well-deserved retirement. To mark the occasion, Venant hosted a small retirement party at the institute yesterday with home-made African specialties.
