Professor Ronzani, visiting researcher
6 February 2025
In January 2025, Professor Giovanna Ronzani was a visiting researcher at our Chair. She is the Head of the Civil Engineering Division at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA, Brazil) and President of the Sociedade Brasileira de Transporte Aéreo (SBTA). Prof. Ronzani earned her doctorate at ITA and conducted research on air transport and airports at RWTH Aachen. As an expert in air transport, airport architecture, and urban air mobility, she has served in various advisory roles for ICAO, ANAC, and the Brazilian government.
Our discussions explored the optimization of vertiport locations, taking into account dynamic demand patterns, connectivity with other transport modes, and the need for scalable infrastructure development. A key challenge lies in the interdependence between available infrastructure, emerging technologies, and air taxi operations, as these elements continuously shape one another.
Additional topics included operational concepts for air services—particularly in urban air traffic management—and the integration of safety landings in densely populated areas, including emergency scenarios, at both pre-tactical and operational levels.
During her visit, Professor Ronzani also toured our research lab and engaged in discussions with our team, aiming to explore future collaboration opportunities between ITA and the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.
