Ivo Steinbrecher passes his PhD defense with highest grade

Yesterday, Monday, September 19, 2022, Ivo Steinbrecher passed his PhD defense, the first defense of the CompSim group under the supervision of Alexander Popp. The examination started with a compelling 30-minute presentation by Ivo Steinbrecher on the main contents of his thesis entitled 'Mixed-dimensional finite element formulations for beam-to-solid interaction'. This was followed by a one-hour questioning of the candidate by the three reviewers Alexander Popp, Christian Hesch (Universität Siegen) and Alexander Humer (Johannes Kepler Universität Linz) under exclusion of the public.
After the exam, chairman Thomas Apel was able to announce the passing of the examination with the highest grade 'summa cum laude' . In the subsequent speech of the first examiner, Alexander Popp highlighted the main steps in Ivo's doctoral project. Besides congratulating him on his outstanding research accomplishments in the field of computational mechanics, Alexander Popp thanked Ivo for his valuabe contributions and support over the last years during the build-up process of the new CompSim group at IMCS. Finally, the successful candidate thanked all those present and invited them to join him in the celebrations.
