IMCS as huge visitor magnet at the Open Day of the University
2 July 2018
At this year's Open Day of the University of the German Federal Armed Forces Munich on Saturday, June 30, our institute was represented in the main building with an extensive range of exhibits on the topic of "Hands-on Mathematics". Our stand quickly developed into a real visitor magnet, where young and old alike enthusiastically produced square soap bubbles, brought spheres to their destination as quickly as possible and had Prof. Thomas Apel explain the mathematical background of these experiments. The computer-based simulation group was also represented, and ambitious hobby civil engineers (and also some real civil engineers) were able to compete with Prof. Alexander Popp in the virtual design and simulation of daring bridge constructions.
