Under the title "University research for looking into the future", the website of the German Ministry of Defense contains a report on the Kompetenzzentrum Krisenfrüherkennung (KompZ KFE; Competence Center for Early Crisis Detection). Among other things, project manager Prof. Dr. Carlo Masala explains the goals of the center, which by no means consist of predicting wars. Rather, according to Masala, it's about "research approaches that aim to evaluate information in an automated way and provide early indications of crisis-like developments that could lead to conflict escalation."
