Academic Career
Since January 2017, Prof. Dr. Julia Thaler has held the W3 Professorship for General Business Administration, with a focus on Public Management, at the Faculty of Business and Organizational Sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. She had already been fulfilling the duties of this position on an interim basis since June 2015.
After completing her studies, Julia Thaler worked as a doctoral candidate (PhD in 2012) and habilitation candidate (habilitation and Venia Legendi in Business Administration in 2016) at the Chair for General Business Administration, Public and Nonprofit Management at the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Mannheim.
She studied European Economics at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg and the École Supérieure de Commerce de Montpellier as part of a German-French double degree program, specializing in Human Resources and Organization, Strategic Business Management, Non-Governmental Organization Management, as well as Business French, English, and Spanish.
Her research focuses on topics related to (sustainable) human resources and organizational management, as well as strategic management in public and nonprofit organizations and cross-sector collaborations. The results of her research have been published in leading international journals, including Academy of Management Learning & Education, Business Research, European Management Journal, International Public Management Journal, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Public Management Review, and Voluntas.
To foster exchange between academia and practice, Julia Thaler is currently a member of the KGSt (Communal Agency for Administrative Management) Science Network and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bavarian Savings Banks Association.
In her university teaching, her focus areas include Public Management, Business and Corporate Ethics, and qualitative empirical methods. She teaches at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels, as well as in continuing education programs at the Campus Advanced Studies Center.
