One of the most visited castles in the world is in Bavaria: the famous Neuschwanstein. Placed on the foothills of the Alps, it is only one of the castles built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, a devoted patron of the composer Richard Wagner. Other castles or palaces include Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee, a small replica of Versailles. On the hill opposite to Neuschwanstein, you can visit Hohenschwangau, a castle built by Ludwig's father.
