Prof. Michl studied law with a focus on German and European Public Law at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and completed a Master's program leading to an LL.M. in European Law at King's College London. While assistant professor (Akademischer Rat a. Z.) at the Chair of Public Law and European Law at LMU, he also represented several renowned chairs in Passau, at FU Berlin and at the universities of Mannheim, Regensburg and Bielefeld.
Since his doctoral thesis on the effects of the announced accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights, Prof. Michl has focused on the interlocking of constitutional orders at the various state and supranational levels, from state law to international law. In this context, he also places a special focus on fundamental rights and the relationship between the courts that interpret them. Furthermore, he deals intensively with general EU law and questions of economic law in German and European law.
In addition to numerous talks in Germany and abroad as well as to participation in high-profile panel discussions, Prof. Michl has earned a reputation in the media as a sought after expert on constitutional and European law.
