Jonas Schützeneder studied governance with a focus on politics and media at the University of Passau (2010–2013). At the same time, he completed an editorial traineeship at Passauer Neue Presse on a scholarship. He then worked as a journalist for various media companies, including as a political correspondent in the Bavarian state parliament and as a sports reporter for FC Bayern Munich. From 2014 to 2016, Schützeneder studied at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) and completed his studies with a master's degree in journalism with a focus on innovation and management.
After having graduated, Jonas Schützeneder began his academic career at KU as an assistant to Prof. Dr. Klaus Meier. He also completed his doctorate (2019) about sports journalism and his habilitation (2022) on innovation communications in Eichstätt and was awarded KU’s prize for good university teaching twice. He was furthermore involved in “Join-DemoS”, an international and DFG-funded project on journalistic innovations in Europe. In October 2021, Jonas Schützeneder was appointed Professor of Journalism at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences.
His research focuses on digital journalism, in particular social media, media innovations and artificial intelligence. Prof. Schützeneder is also spokesperson for the journalism studies division of the German Communication Association, member of the editorial team of the media ethics journal Communicatio Socialis, a jury member for various awards, and a reviewer for foundations and (inter)national journals.
