Prof. Huemer studied psychology at the Technische Universität Braunschweig. In 2012, she completed her doctorate on distractions in road traffic, focusing on the valid measurement of distraction frequencies and the cognitive effects of secondary activities while driving. After her PhD, she worked in Braunschweig as a lecturer at the Chair of Traffic and Engineering Psychology until 2014. From 2014 to 2015, she was a visiting professor of engineering psychology/cognitive ergonomics at Humboldt-Universität Berlin. Following her visiting professorship, she returned to the Chair of Traffic and Engineering Psychology as a research associate.
In her current research, Prof. Huemer is concerned with objective and subjective safety as well as the comfort experience of unprotected road users. She uses survey studies as well as experimental designs in bicycle and car simulators. The goal of her research is to create a traffic environment that meets the diverse needs of different road users. The user-centered design of sustainable mobility systems is particularly close to her heart.
Prof. Huemer is a reviewer for various journals and is a member of the steering committee of the International Co-operation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic safety.
