MUM 2018
1 November 2018
From 25-28th November 2018 we organized the 17th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (http://www.mum-conf.org/2018/) in Cairo, Egypt. Since its inaugural edition in Oulu, Finland, the conference was held in various places in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. This year, for the first time, MUM took place on the African continent.
We had two fantastic keynote speakers: Prof. Matt Jones from Swansea University sketched a future in which machines will be ubiquitous and discussed how to leverage the qualities we possess as humans in such a way that we do not simply become limited versions of the machines we most fear. Dr. Bo Begole (Apple Inc.) explored the challenges and some promising directions to really make AR become a replacement for the smart phone.
With 109 attendees, it was the largest MUM conference ever. An outstanding organizing committee made this an exceptional event. From the Usable Security and Privacy Group, Dr. Yomna Abdelrahman (Local Arrangements and Presenter), M.Sc. Sarah Prange (Student Volunteer and Presenter) and Prof. Dr. Florian Alt (General Chair) contributed to the success of this event.
