Individual laboratories
The institute has different laboratories. One group produces and prepares the test specimens. The second group is very well equipped for investigating material properties. Here, tests on all scales are possible. This starts on the microscale with x-ray radiographic, infrared, computed tomographic and scanning electronic investigations and visualizations and continues on the meso and macro scale. Mechanical parameters are obtained on the latter scale. Due to the scientific approach on all three scales researchers at the institute gain insights, which reveals for instance the potential of alternative pozzolanic binders such as calcined clays and makes this material accessible to creative engineers which they can use for constructions as durable as those build by the Romans with their Opus Caementitium.
