Alexander Bienemann, Juan David González González and Thomas Steinecker will present their work at the IV 2023 in Anchorage, USA.
Welcome to the
Institute for Autonomous Systems Technology
Chair: Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mirko Mählisch
Research at the Institute for Autonomous Systems Engineering focuses on the development of autonomous, mobile robot platforms.
The research activities of the Institute date back to the 1980s.
The Institute's current research focuses primarily on autonomous driving in unstructured environments.
In recent years, two further research vehicles have been developed as demonstration and test platforms for the newer research activities, building on the experience of previous projects.
These two newer test vehicles are a modified VW Touareg and a VW Tiguan, which are also suitable for driving in rough terrain.
Both vehicles are similarly equipped with extensive, computer-controlled sensors and actuators to be able to navigate independently in unknown, unstructured environments and to cope with exploratory tasks.
In a similar way, the platforms are called MuCAR-3 (Munich Cognitive Autonomous Robot Car 3rd Generation) and MuCAR-4 (Munich Cognitive Autonomous Robot Car 4th Generation).
