Research

At PACY we research and develop privacy-enhancing cryptographic technologies for the protection of users, data, and communications. We work on foundational aspects such as modelling and security analysis, as well as predominantly on the design, development, and practical deployment.

Our research areas include protocols for secure processing of encrypted and distributed data, functional/attribute-based encryption and signature schemes, privacy-preserving authentication and key management protocols, protocols for private messaging, privacy-enhancing cryptography for decentralised multi-party applications in the context of web/cloud, social media, IoT, and blockchain.

Research Projects

SECANT: Security and Privacy Protection in Internet of Things Devices

SECANT is an Innovation Action project funded by the EU H2020 framework with a multi-national consortium of 4 academic institutions and 16 industrial partners from 10 countries. PACY is primarily involved in the design and implementation of an advanced privacy toolkit that interacts with the distributed ledger to trust and integrity, and enable private sharing of sensitive data.

Decentralised Multi-Factor Web Authentication

This project aims to design secure and privacy-friendly protocols for multi-factor web authentication, in particular focusing on the decentralised approaches around the new WebAuthn standard. In collaboration with Yubico we are working on secure solutions enabling backup and delegation of WebAuthn credentials while preserving the crucial privacy properties of the standard.
