Biomimetic Wing Configurations

White storks (ciconia ciconia) show superb flying performance in soaring flight, which at a great extent is attributed to the cascaded primary feathers on the wing tip. Besides redistribution of the tip vortex into several smaller vortices, the fine structure of the feathers also has an effect on the flow close to the walls. The research project is targeted on the understanding of the associated phenomena, their quantitative description and modeling.
