Aerospace technology is one of the most important innovations of the 20th century. It has changed people's lives dramatically like no other field of technology. Aviation set the process of global networking in motion long before the digital revolution. Today, space travel enables worldwide communication in live quality. Numerous other fascinating applications are still being born today and in the future from aerospace technology, such as the observation of geophysical processes from space, flying taxis or door-to-door logistics services, worldwide positioning accurate to the millimetre, autonomous mobility in the air and on the road. Our Department of Aerospace Engineering offers a wide range of basic and application-oriented research areas. We analyse and design flow and thermal processes, design and install high-performance materials and structures, develop and program complex, highly automated and sensor-bearing systems, in space, in the air and on the road. Find out about our exciting study, job and research opportunities.
Aerospace Engineering has been one of the most fascinating academic courses of study for decades, today and in the future. Once a mechanical engineering graduate from only a few German universities, it has long since developed into a broadly diversified, multi-disciplinary and extremely attractive field of activity with a promising future. In addition to basic physics and materials science, engineering questions of computation, design, automation, energy generation and conversion, your studies will focus on autonomous and socio-technical systems, lightweight structures, propulsion concepts, supersonic and hypersonic flows, drones and satellites, software and mechatronic systems, cockpits and control stations for tele-manipulation and many other exciting topics. For those who are particularly interested in mathematics, we offer courses of study in Mathematical Engineering in addition to aerospace technology. Find out about our challenging Bachelor and Master courses, our excellently equipped laboratories and your career opportunities as a "Rocket Engineer".
The Department of Aerospace Engineering comprises 14 Institutes in which a total of 21 university professors and approx. 200 scientific staff members conduct research and teach. The Institutes cover the entire range of aerospace applications. Methodologically, the focus is on complex systems, aero-, thermo- and fluid dynamics, as well as construction methods and materials. Automotive systems are also considered.
