•     Free allocation of identifiers, e.g. ISBN, URN, DOI
•     Cataloguing of the publication in catalogs and databases, e.g. in the Gateway Bayern
•     Mandatory deposit at the German National Library
•     Guarantee of long-term availability of the publication
