Dr Michalis Kakos is a Reader in Education and the director of the Masters by Research (MRes) course at the School of Education, Leeds Beckett University. Prior to this post he held lecturing post at the University of Leicester and research fellowships at the Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education (CCHRE), University of Leeds, and at the Centre for Research in Inclusion and Diversity (CREID), University of Edinburgh. His research interests include: Citizenship education, the emergence of self and the construction of identity; institutionalisation in education; ‘normality’, ‘abnormality’ and special education. He has taught in primary schools, pupil referral units, and in special, grammar, comprehensive and preparatory schools in Greece, the USA and the UK.
