The research topics at the institute range from single-phase and multiphase flows on microscopic scales in microfluidics to subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows in aerodynamics to flows on large scales for the analysis of turbulent flows at large Reynolds numbers. In addition to a chip laboratory, which was set up for the production of special channels for microfluidic research, the institute operates unique testing facilities such as the Trisonische Windtunnel Munich (TWM), the Atmospheric Windtunnel Munich (AWM) and various water channels. Furthermore, extensive mechanical, electrical and optical measuring techniques are also available for the analysis of flow phenomena. The following overview shows the spectrum of mainly experimental research at the institute.
