Multi-Colour Schlieren Optics

With the aid of the Schlieren technique, flows of transparent media can be visualized by exploiting changes in the refractive index distribution. If several colours are used, the direction of the density gradients can be determined.

The Trisonic Wind Tunnel uses a 4-colour Schlieren system with a focal length of 4 metres. The light source is a 1.6 kW xenon lamp.
