Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Michael Schultz

Prof. Schultz studied business and engineering at the Technical University of Dresden (2002) with a focus on finance, public economics, and production as well as mechanical engineering and aerospace. The complex behavior of passengers in airports was the subject of his Dissertation (2010). In his Habilitation (2019), he investigated automated process flows in aircraft ground processes, designing a digitally networked aircraft cabin and developing dynamically adaptive process flows.

He was a research associate at the Institute of Logistics and Aviation at Technical University (TU) Dresden before heading the Department of Air Transportation at the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance in Braunschweig from 2014 to 2019. Prof. Schultz returned to TU Dresden as a Privatdozent in 2019 and has since also been a Visiting Researcher at the Air Traffic Management Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies and Editor-in-Chief of the Air Traffic and Transportation Section of Aerospace.

Prof. Schultz represents the field of air traffic concepts in research and teaching at the Department of Aerospace Engineering. His research interests include data-driven and model-based approaches to improve (air) transportation, flow-centric airspace management, performance-based airport operations, traffic and process automation, digitalization, expansion of urban transportation systems into the airspace, and advanced concepts for intermodal future (air) traffic management.

The list of his publications can be viewed on GoogleScholar, Scopus, and ResearchGate. The publications of the Chair of Air Transportation Systems can be accessed at this link: Publications Overview.
