Gabriela A. Frei is a research assistant and lecturer at the Chair for Contemporary History and International Relations (Professor Marc Frey) at the German Armed Forces University, Munich. She studied history, constitutional law, and English literature at the University of Bern and was awarded a DPhil in History at the University of Oxford in 2013 with a thesis entitled ‘Great Britain, International Law, and the Evolution of Maritime Strategic Thought, 1815-1914’. After her studies, she received a Brandon Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge. After that she was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Oxford, and she held a Post-Doc position at the Centre de droit international at the Université libre de Bruxelles, funded by the Wiener-Anspach Foundation.

In her research, she is interested in European history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries from a comparative and transnational perspective. Thematically, she focuses on the history of international politics of Great Britain in comparison to German and American history, the history of international law and international relations, particularly the laws of naval warfare and maritime strategy, as well as global networks of international organisations.

Dr. Gabriela A. Frei lectures on British and European history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries from a global perspective, on the history of international organisations, diplomacy, and international politics, as well as on the history of international law.
